Gifted testing, including assessments like the WAIS-IV and WISC-V, is used to identify students who demonstrate advanced cognitive abilities compared to their same-age peers. The results are commonly used to determine eligibility for school-based gifted programs, such as advanced learning plans (ALPs), accelerated coursework, or specialized classroom placements.
The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) is a widely used individual assessment for young children ages 2½ to 7 years 7 months. It measures overall cognitive ability through a Full-Scale IQ and index scores in verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. As the primary tool for early gifted identification in young children, it plays a crucial role in gifted testing. This assessment is part of the Wechsler family of tests, which includes the WAIS-IV assessment for adults and the WISC-V assessment for older children. The flat fee includes assessment, scoring, interpretations, and report.
The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V) assessment is a widely used individual evaluation for children ages 6 to 16. This tool measures overall cognitive ability through a Full-Scale IQ and index scores in verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. It is one of the most common options for gifted testing and determining gifted eligibility. The Flat Fee includes Assessment, Scoring, Interpretations, and Report.
Need results faster? Add expedited service to your assessment for a 3-business-day turnaround on your child's comprehensive written report (instead of the standard 1-week timeframe). Ideal for families facing school deadlines or time-sensitive enrollment decisions. This add-on can be purchased alongside any WPPSI-IV or WISC-V assessment.

At Gifted Testing Colorado, the flat fee for both the WPPSI-IV (ages 2 1/2 to 7) and the WISC-V (ages 6 to 16) is $500. That price is all-inclusive: it covers the full assessment, scoring, professional interpretation, and a written report you can share with your child's school. There are no surprise add-ons for the report or score breakdown. Private gifted evaluations in Colorado typically range from $400 to $1,500 or more, so a transparent flat fee from a Licensed School Psychologist keeps things straightforward.
Yes. Colorado school districts routinely use scores from the WPPSI-IV and WISC-V as part of gifted identification, advanced learning plan (ALP) eligibility, and accelerated placement decisions. Because the assessment is administered and signed by a Colorado-licensed school psychologist, the report is in the same format and language schools already expect. We recommend giving the report directly to your school's gifted coordinator or psychologist, who will then incorporate the cognitive scores into their multi-criteria identification process alongside achievement data and other indicators.
Both are individually administered cognitive (IQ) tests from the Wechsler family, but they are designed for different age ranges. The WPPSI-IV (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition) is used for children ages 2 years 6 months through 7 years 7 months. The WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition) is used for children ages 6 through 16. If your child falls in the 6 to 7 overlap range, we will recommend the better fit based on their developmental profile and the reason for testing. Both yield a Full-Scale IQ along with index scores in areas such as verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed.
Plan on roughly 90 minutes to 2 hours for the in-person testing appointment, depending on your child's age, pacing, and the number of subtests completed. Younger children taking the WPPSI-IV are usually on the shorter end. We build in breaks as needed so your child stays engaged and produces their best work. After the appointment, scoring, interpretation, and report writing happen behind the scenes. You will typically receive the written report within about 1 week of testing.
No. You do not need a school referral or a formal diagnosis to schedule a private gifted IQ evaluation. Parents commonly seek out testing when they suspect their child is gifted, when they want a second opinion after a school screening, when they are pursuing acceleration or a specialized program, or simply when they want a clearer picture of their child's learning profile. We work with families across Colorado, including those whose schools do not offer in-house cognitive testing or who want results sooner than the school's identification cycle allows.
You will typically receive a comprehensive written report within 1 week of the testing appointment. The report includes your child's Full-Scale IQ, all index and subtest scores, percentile rankings, a plain-language interpretation of what the scores mean, and any relevant behavioral observations from the session. It is written in a format that schools, gifted coordinators, and other professionals can use directly. If you need the report sooner for a school deadline, let us know during scheduling and we will do our best to accommodate.
Testing is in person and conducted in your local community. To make appointments convenient for families across Colorado, I typically reserve a private study room at a local public library and meet you there. Library study rooms work well for cognitive testing because they are quiet, distraction-free, climate-controlled, and a neutral environment most kids feel comfortable in. I serve families across the Front Range and surrounding communities, including Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, Parker, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Arvada, Westminster, and nearby towns. I do not offer remote or online IQ testing because doing so would compromise the validity of the WPPSI-IV and WISC-V and the report's usefulness for school identification. When you reach out, we will confirm a library location that works for your family.

The testing services provided by Gifted Testing Colorado are independent educational evaluations conducted by a Colorado-licensed School Psychologist. These services are intended solely for educational planning, insight into a student’s learning strengths and needs, and for potential gifted identification. Completion of an evaluation does not guarantee that a student will meet the criteria for gifted identification, as results are based on standardized testing and norm-referenced performance. This evaluation is not a medical or psychological diagnosis, nor is it intended to assess or treat mental health conditions. Under current Colorado law, licensed School Psychologists are authorized to provide educational assessments and consultative services, but are not permitted to diagnose or provide therapeutic treatment. Parents are encouraged to share evaluation results with their child’s school or educational team as part of a broader decision-making process.
